About Gianna

I’m Gianna Drocco, an early childhood educator and administrator, consultant, and licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in San Francisco.

For over a decade, I have worked in schools supporting children’s social-emotional development while partnering with teachers, administrators, and families to navigate the complexities of early childhood. My background in counseling allows me to approach children’s behavior with curiosity rather than judgment, helping adults understand the developmental needs, nervous system responses, and relationships that shape how children learn and interact.

I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Innovative Early Childhood Education through Boulder Journey School, a program inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach. This work has deepened my belief that children are capable, thoughtful learners and that meaningful education emerges through relationships, play, inquiry, and collaboration.

Alongside my work in schools, my most important role is being a mother to two young daughters. Watching them explore the world has strengthened my commitment to protecting childhood as a time for imagination, connection, and discovery. These experiences guide my work supporting preschool communities where both children and adults feel seen, supported, and inspired to grow together.

My Philosophy of Childhood

I believe children deserve to be understood before they are corrected.

Behavior is not something to control or fix — it is communication. When adults slow down and become curious about what children are experiencing emotionally, socially, and physically, new possibilities emerge for connection and learning.

My approach is grounded in several core beliefs:

I am deeply influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach, which views education as a collaborative process among children, teachers, families, and the environment. This perspective honors the complexity of childhood and reminds us that learning unfolds through curiosity, dialogue, and shared discovery.

When we support the adults around children, we create stronger environments for children to thrive.
